Read for a Cause: Texting While Driving

For teenagers (us), texting is the preferred way of communication; it’s cheap, (duh!), easy, convenient, and very fast! And all over the World, people have been using cars to transport from one place to another, especially here in Oman because it offers fast transport and keeps us cold during the days of the year.

But as a community, Oman suffers greatly from the problem of texting while driving, and we, as the next generation of drivers,
should be more aware of this problem.

We all know that bbm (black berry messenger) has become an extremely popular service/trend around here, and while driving around the streets of Oman you can notice a few distracted drivers who utilise their phones and cause problems.

That's the main purpose of my post. To stop drivers (especially young ones) from using their phones while driving cars, as they risk their own lives as well as the lives of others, and damage private and public properties.
When interviewing a lot of the youth generation over here at Muscat Youth Summit, most of them said that the most serious issue is texting while driving, and although many of ride in cars with a driver who is distracted, they sometimes don't speak up because the drivers don't pay attention to them, but those who do say that the drivers immediately stop using their phones because they know in the back of their minds that it is the right thing to do.

They suggested using apps ( applications on phones) that sense when a person is in the car, targeting the youth when talking about the problem, keeping phones away from the driver during his journey, spreading awareness and implementing laws/huge fines to people who actually practice this behavior while driving.
